Twelve common signs of low testosterone levels

Do you suspect that you have low levels of testosterone? If so, you may be experiencing some of these signs and symptoms that may indicate an imbalance in your hormone levels:

  • Low sex drive – men may experience changes in their libido if their testosterone levels have declined
  • Difficulty with erections – erective dysfunction is common in men with lower levels of testosterone, and can be correct with hormonal balancing or the use of prescription medications
  • Poor semen volume – the production of semen is controlled by testosterone, and ejaculations with less semen is common in patients with low testosterone
  • Hair loss – while hair loss and balding is a natural part of aging for most men, some body and facial hair loss can be linked to hormone levels
  • Fatigue – decreased energy and extreme fatigue are common complaints in men with low levels of testosterone, which can also make it more difficult to become motivated to exercise
  • Reduced muscle mass – the building of muscle is corelated with testosterone levels, but does not impact the function or strength in those who actively play a role in working out regularly
  • Increased body fat – an increase in body fat, including breast tissue, can occur during times of low testosterone and in some instances, an increase in estrogen
  • Reduced bone mass – osteoporosis is a deterioration of the body often associated with women, but it can occur in men as well
  • Poor mood – mood swings may change during times of low or high testosterone, and can leave individuals more prone to problems such as depression and irritability
  • Memory loss/poor concentration – testosterone and cognitive functions naturally decline with age, but supplementing hormone balance with testosterone in men has shown to improve memory and concentration
  • Hypogonadism – testosterone is needed to develop the testicles and penis, so low levels of testosterone may result in smaller-than-normal private parts
  • Anemia – low blood counts can cause patients to be at an increased risk for anemia
