Eyelid Lift Procedure in Hattiesburg, MS
What is an Eyelid Lift?
As you age, the skin around your eyes becomes looser and wrinkles, the muscles stretch, and as the tissues weaken fat bulges. All of this can contribute to an unaesthetic, tired or sad appearance of your eyes. With progression, the excess skin on your upper lids can even cause visual problems. An Eyelid Lift or Blepharoplasty is designed to remove the excess skin, muscle, and fat from the eyelids. This improves the wrinkles and bulges giving you a more alert, youthful appearance.
How is an Eyelid Lift Performed?
Incisions are typically placed in the upper lid crease and just below the eyelashes on the lower lid extending just past the outside part of the eye. With very few exceptions the incisions heal extremely well and are almost imperceptible.
The procedure can be done under general anesthesia or with just sedation and local anesthesia. You can expect some mild discomfort as well as some bruising. Cool shields are placed over the eyes after surgery, and you will continue to keep them cool for the next 24 hours. You will need to keep your head elevated and have someone around to assist you. Your follow-up appointment is typically within one week.
Does Insurance Cover an Eyelid Lift?
If a visual field obstruction is found, insurance will usually pay to have the upper lids corrected.
