Nose Surgery – Hattiesburg
What is Rhinoplasty Surgery?
A rhinoplasty is surgery to change the size or shape of the nose to improve its appearance. It is sometimes combined with other procedures to improve breathing. A rhinoplasty is occasionally combined with a chin implant. A small chin can make the face look disproportionate and exaggerate the size of the nose. The best candidates for rhinoplasty are those who are looking for improvement and not perfection. At The Plastic Surgery Center of Hattiesburg, computer imaging is available to give you an idea of what can be accomplished.
How is Rhinoplasty Surgery?
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Most are performed using an open approach, which requires a small incision at the base of the nose. The rest of the incisions are inside the nostrils. You can expect to be bruised and swollen after surgery, particularly around the eyes and nose. A splint will be on the outside of your nose and gauze packing will be on the inside. The splint will need to remain in place for approximately 1 week. The packing is usually removed in a few days. While most of the nasal swelling will be gone in the first few months, swelling in the tip of the nose can be present for up to one year, though it is rarely noticeable
